Certain states require agencies that engage in repossession activities be licensed and governed. These states do not reflect differences between voluntary or involuntary repossessions, therefore a licensed agency must be contracted in each case. Violations are investigated, and penalties are assessed against the non-licensed agency, as well as the lender that initiates the assignment.
